Required Hours
Each All-Levels certification requires you to successfully complete a certain number of hours in the subject area prior to starting a certification program which collaborates with the School of Education. If you are interested in teaching in a specialized area, find the available subject areas below.

Department
Each specialized teacher certification officially falls under the department for that subject area. However, all certification programs work in collaboration with the School of Education.

Laura Combs Perez’s Story
Laura Perez teaches at Blackshear Elementary Fine Arts Academy, a public school in Austin committed to the arts for all children. In her first year, Laura was named an Austin ISD Teacher of Promise. Laura tells how her preparation in the ACU Teacher Education Program prepared her to live into calling of teaching with excellence and caring, informed by her faith commitment to serve all children.
Special Education and Interdisciplinary Options
In the art education degree, you will take advanced art courses such as ceramics, drawing and jewelry/metals. The theatre education degree offers courses such as directing, children’s theatre, voice and diction, and theatre lighting. In music education, immerse yourself in music theory, arranging and music literature. In Spanish education, take advanced language courses as well as courses in culture and Spanish literature. In all four degrees, students take area-specific courses alongside education courses in instructional strategies, classroom management and more, preparing you to serve with excellence in today’s diverse classrooms.
ACU offers interdisciplinary teacher education programs that allow you to teach the following subjects at all early childhood and elementary levels:

- Music (instrumental, piano, vocal)
- Spanish
- Theatre
For those interested in combining a master’s degree with their undergraduate teacher training, ACU offers a one year M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning designed for ACU students who will complete a bachelor’s degree in education.
