M.S. IN SOCIAL WORK – ADVANCED STANDING
For students who have completed a bachelor’s in social work from a program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE).
- One Year Full-Time (Part-Time Available)
- 38 Credit Hours (2 Semesters + 6 Weeks)
- One 500 Hour Field Placement
- Paid part-time/full-time graduate assistantships available
Looking ahead to licensure, the Advanced Standing MSSW refines the skill set you acquired through your bachelor’s degree in social work. In the process, you’ll prepare for professional practice by exploring and applying advanced evaluation, assessment, and intervention techniques, begin to understand how social workers push for change within their communities through policy and leadership, and learn more about the role of management in nonprofit and government organizations.
M.S. IN SOCIAL WORK – STANDARD
For students who have completed a bachelor’s in another field of study (not social work).

The M.S. in Social Work tackles this overarching objective through a multifaceted model. Curriculum trains students for professional leadership and advanced general practice while imparting the importance of ethical, evidence-based interventions. In the classroom and field assignments, we encourage you to push beyond your comfort zone to become a culturally competent professional who promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within local and international contexts.

The Emphasis of Fieldwork
ACU’s School of Social Work aims to have all MSSW students gain meaningful hands-on experience to begin making a difference in the field and to streamline the pathway to licensure following graduation. Fieldwork provides a glimpse of your career, from tackling day-to-day challenges to connecting with and serving clients to ways you can encourage policy change. As this occurs, your assignment allows you to see concepts in action and reinforce what you’ve learned thus far.
ACU works with over 60 agencies in Texas, with the majority concentrated in the central part of the state. Our connections serve and collaborate with a range of populations and communities.
