ACU Summit to explore biblical narratives in community

Registration is underway for the 118th year of Abilene Christian University’s Summit, Oct. 16-18, with the theme of “Woven Together: The Power of Biblical Narratives.”

Summit is a part of the Siburt Institute for Church Ministry and offers Christian leaders the opportunity to gather with others serving in similar roles for teaching, worship and fellowship. Attendees share practices, discuss ministry challenges and encourage one another, all while forging relationships that extend beyond Summit.

The conference takes place annually in the fall over three days leading up to ACU’s Homecoming weekend and is centered around intentional groups for those with similar interests or leadership roles.

The Fall 2024 communities include adult formation, children’s ministry, Hispanic ministry, preaching ministry and rural church ministry. Facilitators will craft each community’s discussions and learning experiences specifically toward the needs of the group. There will also be both Old Testament and New Testament general interest communities that will explore the theme of “Woven Together” in a more general setting.

“Summit is open to everyone, whether a person serves formally in ministry or not,” said Dr. Jennifer Schroeder (’22 D.Min.), Summit director. “While we are focusing on specific areas of ministry, our general interest communities maintain a more traditional lectureship model for those who simply want to dive more deeply into the word of God.”

Worship throughout the event will be led by United Voice Worship, a bridge-building a cappella music ministry composed of diverse worship ministers and praise leaders from Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas.

Keynote speakers for Summit include:

  • Alejandro Ezquerra, bilingual minister at the University Church of Christ in Abilene
  • Anna Carter Florence, the Peter Marshall Professor of Preaching at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia
  • Robby John, preaching minister for Saturn Road Church of Christ in Garland, Texas
  • Josh Ross (03), lead minister at Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee
