Two ACU women’s social clubs celebrate milestone anniversaries with special activities at ACU Homecoming next week. Ko Jo Kai will mark its 100th anniversary by inviting its oldest living member, 102-year-old Eloise (Reynolds ’37) Carruthers, to join members in the parade. Sigma Theta Chi will celebrate its 50th anniversary by inviting social club alumnae to walk with current students in the parade.
Both clubs have special anniversary events in store during the weekend for alumni members, and Women for ACU also is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a luncheon Sunday, Oct. 20.
The Homecoming Parade itself is in its 27th year and will begin at 10 a.m. and travel down East North 16th Street and Campus Court. Leading the way as grand marshals will be Joe Golding (’99) and Julie Goodenough, head coaches for men’s and women’s basketball, who led their Wildcats to Southland Conference Tournament wins and trips to the NCAA Tournament in March. Fritter, the official K9 for ACU PD, will also lead the parade in a custom canine-sized police car.
Other parade highlights include State Rep. Stan Lambert (’75), Women for ACU, members of the 2009 Coming Home Court, including Queen Anna (Peters ’09) Henix, and the 2019 Homecoming Court.
Events after the parade include Homecoming Chapel at 11:15 a.m. in Moody Coliseum, reunion class lunches and Wildcat Country Tailgating in the Campus Mall area at noon, Wildcat football against Stephen F. Austin at 3 p.m. in Wildcat Stadium, and a Homecoming Dessert Celebration from 8:30-10 p.m. at the Hunter Welcome Center.
