Requirements

The Board of Nursing background check costs approximately $40-50.

In addition to the Texas BON criminal background check, clinical facilities require a separate CBC with details of social security verification, healthcare abuse and fraud, CNA licensure and other healthcare profession licensure verification, criminal history, residency history, etc. Place the order for your clinical background check through CastleBranch. This CBC is completed online, and results are generally received in 5-7 business days.

Once you receive the results in your CastleBranch profile, you need to download the results to your device and then upload them to your Document Tracker Requirements. All pages must be uploaded in order for this requirement to be met.

Cost: $35.00

The minimum requirement for ACU School of Nursing is a certified nurse aide training course. Students must show evidence of course completion. Students may then sit for licensing exam, if desired.

ACU SON does not require a license number for admission, but to work as a CNA, students must complete the course, sit for licensing exam and have an active CNA license number. CNA course, testing and certification are not included in ACU’s tuition.

Texas certified nurse aides are under the jurisdiction of the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (TDHHS). CNAs must complete training and evaluation programs. They must also have acceptable legal and professional backgrounds.

Nurse aides must complete state-approved programs. The most direct path to certification is to complete a Texas-approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP). Texas programs are 100 hours. The student can expect a background check as part of the eligibility process.

ACU’s School of Nursing has been approved by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services to offer a CNA program. Please see  acu.edu/nursing for further information and to register for upcoming classes. If you choose to take the CNA course elsewhere, please refer to the TDHSS Nurse Aide Registry website for further information.

All applicants are required to take a standardized admission exam, an assessment tool used to evaluate prospective students and their potential for successful program completion. Beginning in the fall of 2022, the School of Nursing will be transitioning to the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills). For spring 2023 applicants, students may take the HESI A2 or the TEAS exam. Exam attempts are limited to 3 attempts per year, 2 attempts per admission cycle, and a minimum of 30 days between attempts. Students can mix the exams (i.e. HESI A2 and TEAS) depending on availability of proctoring, but may NOT exceed the maximum attempts.

Important – Before your testing appointment, you must set up an Evolve account at evolve.elsevier.com or hesiinet.com. (Need to create how-to for evolve in Success Slate)

ATI testing is available in the ACU Testing Center, located on the third floor of the Hardin Administration Building.

You must upload the front and back of your driver’s license or state-issued identification card.

Active proof of major medical health insurance must be maintained in your file during the duration of the program.  A certificate of insurance or insurance ID card needs to be uploaded to your document tracker annually.

If your health insurance card has a different last name for the primary card holder, ACU School of Nursing will need proof of relationship.
