Alpha Scholars

Overview

Services

Alpha Scholars Program provides academic accommodations, tutoring, academic coaching and mentoring relationships to students with disabilities. We also have a new program, called Alpha Elevate, that supports autistic students. All of these services are provided at no cost to the student, thanks to the support of ACU!

Individualized Strategy

Every student has their own strengths and challenges. Alpha works with each student to develop an individualized plan for academic success. Some students need help in a content area (like math), others need guidance on study skills or academic organization. Still others need encouragement and a listening ear.

We take the time with each student to find the strengths that will overcome the challenges.

Great Expectations

The staff in Alpha believe in our students – even when our students sometimes have difficulty believing in themselves. We expect our students to excel, graduate and even continue academic work beyond graduation.

When a student struggles to see the possibilities in light of their challenges, Alpha holds those expectations, hopes and possibilities in trust.

Finding Success Means Choosing Success

While we are eager to provide all of our services to every participant, we can only help those who choose to access our services. Our data clearly shows that students who use our services regularly (specifically tutoring and academic coaching) graduate at a rate of over 90%.

Finding success can be guesswork – choosing success is a strategy, and Alpha can help you employ a winning strategy.

Contact Alpha Scholars

The staff in the Alpha Scholars Program are committed to ensuring that our students have every possible resource to find academic success. If you need some time with our professional staff, please consider scheduling a meeting with us so that we can give you direct one-on-one attention.

Alpha’s primary focus is to develop interventions to ensure access to a variety of underrepresented or disadvantaged student populations, and to protect the civil rights of students with disabilities at ACU. Alpha students should schedule to meet with Alpha for any reason, but especially if they need assistance in:

  • Requesting accommodations for a disability
  • Connecting to other university resources
  • Coaching related to disabilities and other barriers
  • Assistance in determining whether a student has a disability
  • Problem-solving issues with majors/career choice, faculty issues, and
    university policies
  • Assistance in scheduling tutoring
