ACU adds new trustees to governing board

Abilene Christian University has added three new members to its Board of Trustees.

Don Clevenger headshotDon Clevenger (’92) is senior vice president and chief financial officer for Oncor Electric Delivery. After earning his Bachelor of Business Administration from ACU, he completed a law degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. Don worked with Hunton & Williams for almost nine years and was named a partner. He then served as senior counsel for TXU and as a vice president and a senior vice president at Oncor, where he led a strategic planning group responsible for IT, risk management, asset investment and strategy, and technology functions. He became senior vice president and chief financial officer for Oncor Electric Delivery in March 2018. Don is a member of both the Texas Bar Association and the Dallas Bar Association, as well as a member of the board of trustees of Paul Quinn College, Home Point and Dallas Christian School. Don and his wife, Jolie (Robbins ’94) Clevenger, are members of the President’s Venture Council and they have three sons, who all attended ACU.

Sandra Fortenberry headshotDr. Sandra (Juarez ’00) Fortenberry  is a higher education professional and optometrist. She is also the first Hispanic female to serve as dean of an optometry school in the nation and the first Hispanic female president of the Texas Optometric Association. She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry, as well as a post-graduate residency in family practice. Along with spending seven years as a practicing optometrist, she became a faculty member at University of the Incarnate Word’s Rosenberg School of Optometry in 2010 and later served as dean. Sandra has been a member of ACU’s Alumni Advisory Board since 2017 and currently serves as the AAB president. She is married to Jake Fortenberry (’00), and they have two daughters. They attend the Northwest Church of Christ in San Antonio, where Jake serves as the youth minister.

Luke Hejl headshotLuke Hejl (’01) is CEO, chairman and co-founder of TimelyCare, a leading higher education virtual health and well-being solution. Since co-founding TimelyCare (formerly TimelyMD) in 2017 with two fellow ACU graduates, he has led the company to deliver complete clinical care to more than 2.5 million students at more than 400 campuses nationwide. Luke was Fort Worth Inc.’s  2022 Entrepreneur of Excellence, a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 Southwest award, and has appeared on several lists of top business leaders in the DFW area. Hejl began his career in advertising and then was one of the first employees at Doctors in Training and later served as CEO of Social Factor. He has remained actively engaged with ACU as a member of the President’s Venture Council, an advisory board member for ACU’s Griggs Center for Entrepreneurship, and a former advisory board member for the JMC Morris+Mitchell student-run agency. He was also a member of the Strategy Development Team in the College of Business Administration. He is married to Sara (Martin ’00) Hejl, and they have three children. 

ACU’s Board of Trustees is the governing body for the university, and members are eligible to serve up to five three-year terms. Trustees set policy, guide the institution’s long-term direction and ensure it fulfills its mission to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world.
