- Download the PD Report template
- Each time you participate in a PD opportunity, make that entry to your report.
- The title column should be the name of the book, conference, etc.
- The date column will be the date of that event.
- The credits column will be the number of credits for that entry. (Refer to the section ‘How Many Credits?’.)
- PD opportunities should be in one of the specified categories.
- A PD Report should be maintained by each staff member in an ongoing manner and submitted annually with the Employee Appraisal.

How do I know if it qualifies for PD?
The goal of professional development is for employees to partake in activities that will enhance the growth of the employee in the following categories:
- ACU Mission: ACU Mission, values, or culture
- Communication: verbal, nonverbal, or written communication
- Departmental: departmental specific areas
- Leadership: ways to lead others
- Personal Professional Development: mentally or physically enhances the employee’s job performance
- Spiritual: enhances spiritual growth (Spiritual activities that are approved by your supervisor count towards PD.)
- Supervisory/Management: helps employees utilize various skills & tools to manage others
- Technical: provides the skills necessary to utilize technology
- Human Resource Development: provides skills in Human Resource Management
- Financial: training in both professional & personal finance
How many credits is a PD item worth?
Conferences/Training Sessions: 1 hour in session = 1 PD Credit (ex. 4 hours spent in session = 4 credits) Lunch and travel time do not qualify.
Books: 50 pages = 1 PD Credit (ex. 100 page book = 2 credits)
Audio/Video tapes: each hour = 1 PD Credit (ex. 180 minute tape = 3 credits)
ACU for Credit Classes: 10 PD Credits for each class taken towards a degree
How much PD Credit do I need?
A complete portfolio of Professional Development would include some training hours in each of the categories listed. The recommended training hours per year are as follows:
Non-exempt Staff: 20 – 26 hours
Exempt Staff: 31 – 41 hours
Executive Staff: 48 – 61 hours
In keeping with the performance appraisal numerical ratings of 5 to 1, the following are professional development hour equivalents for the rating scale:
