ACU and Alief ISD Join Forces to Empower Houston’s Educators

Abilene Christian University is excited to announce a dynamic new partnership with Alief Independent School District designed to empower aspiring and current educators in the Houston area through fully online degree programs and professional development pathways.

In response to the growing demand for well-prepared teachers and educational leaders, ACU and Alief ISD have collaborated to create innovative pathways that enable paraprofessionals, certified teachers, and district administrators to advance their careers while continuing to serve their schools and communities. This partnership focuses on equipping educators at every stage of their career with the tools and credentials needed to thrive in today’s educational landscape.

“ACU and Alief ISD are dedicated to investing in the future of education by nurturing the talents of our existing staff and developing the next generation of teachers,” said Dr. Anthony Mays, superintendent of Alief ISD. “This collaboration opens doors for instructional aides and paraprofessionals to grow into credentialed teachers, ultimately leading their own classrooms. It’s about creating opportunities for continuous growth and ensuring that our educators are equipped to meet the needs of their students.”

The partnership offers four unique pathways tailored to meet the needs of educators and aspiring educators at different career stages:

Classroom to Career:  High school students with a passion for education can earn dual-credit towards an associate’s degree, paving the way for a career in teaching immediately after graduation. These students are guaranteed admission to ACU’s online Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies program, with reduced tuition rates, setting them on a fast track to becoming fully licensed teachers in their home district.

Level Up: This program provides existing paraprofessionals the chance to earn their undergraduate degree and teaching certification. By co-enrolling in ACU’s online Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies program and Region 4 ESC’s Educator Certificate Program, participants are prepared to step into teaching roles with confidence.

Advancing Teachers: As classrooms become more diverse and technologically advanced, ACU’s online Master of Education in Instruction and Learning program enables current educators to enhance their skills, increase student engagement, and advance their careers, including moving into administrative roles.

Doctor of Education Program for Leaders: For those aiming to take on leadership roles, ACU offers online Doctor of Education programs in Educational Leadership and Organizational Leadership. These programs are designed to equip educators with strategic leadership skills, fostering growth and innovation in their schools and communities.

“Through this partnership with Alief ISD, we’re connecting educators’ career goals with their current strengths and aspirations,” said Jessica Manning, chief enrollment and partnerships officer for ACU’s Dallas campus. “Our customized online programs provide educators with unparalleled opportunities to further their education and make a greater impact in their schools and districts. This is just the beginning of how ACU will support and advocate for teachers in the Houston area.”

ACU’s online programs are administered through its branch location in Dallas and include 14 bachelor’s degrees, 16 master’s degrees, three doctoral degrees, five undergraduate certificate programs, and ten graduate certificate programs.
