What happened?

The National Student Clearinghouse, TIAA and Imagine360 have alerted ACU that data related to ACU constituents was exposed as part of breaches to their systems.

We recommend that you closely monitor your financial accounts for suspicious activity. You can also check your credit report for free and, if necessary, consider placing a credit freeze on your credit report with each of the three credit reporting agencies. The Federal Trade Commission offers these recommendations if you believe your information has been compromised.

If you are a benefits-eligible employee of ACU, you can access identity theft coverage at no cost. This service will offer income protection, reimbursement for allowable expenses related to the recovery of your identity, and a customer claims representative to aid you in the process of restoring your identity. What We Know

As part of a global cyberattack underway since the beginning of June, a vulnerability in a commonly used file transfer software, MOVEit, was leveraged to expose data from many organizations. Although ACU does not use MOVEit, the software is used by third-party entities with which ACU shares data – the National Student Clearinghouse and TIAA.

In addition, Imagine360 (formerly GPA) has made us aware of a data security incident involving a separate third-party file sharing platform, Citrix.

How You May Be Impacted

Given the nature of the size and scope of data ACU shares with the National Student Clearinghouse, TIAA and Imagine360 it is possible that sensitive data – ​​including birth dates and social security numbers – from many of our students and employees could be impacted. Those entities and/or others involved are in the process of notifying those whose information was included in the breaches.

What ACU is Doing

ACU’s Information Technology team is working with Human Resources and the Registrar’s Office to investigate the situation, provide information and collaborate with the third-party entities in their communications. We will continue to provide updates or recommendations as they arise.

What You Can Do

Look for communications to come via mail from the affected organizations. You can find more information and updates about the situation at National Student Clearinghouse, TIAA (through a partner company, PBI) and Imagine360.
