Larry came to ACU from Bangkok, Thailand where he lived for 35 years. He spent 10 years growing up in Thailand before enrolling as a student at ACU, but returned to work there with his wife after graduation. Both of their children were born and raised in Bangkok, coming to ACU after high school. Larry’s work was centered in leadership training, but he also was involved in church planting and stabilization. His wife Pam, taught at the International School Bangkok.
When Larry isn’t spending time mentoring students in his office, he’s often preaching at churches in West Texas, traveling to visit family, or skydiving!
Zane McGee

After studying missions in college, Zane and his wife, April, lived as church planters in Niterói, Brazil, where he worked on ministries geared toward discipleship and adult education. Upon returning to the US, Zane continued his interest in religious education by pursuing a masters and then Ph.D. in New Testament at Emory University. He loves the interaction of teaching in the classroom and his academic interests include the Pauline letters and the imagery of the church as family.
Zane enjoys the ongoing engagement with missions and education provided through the various programs offered by the center. He lives in Atlanta, GA, where he and April stay busy wrangling their many children, though you’ll spot him on campus throughout the semester. Whenever free time presents itself, Zane appreciates catching up on lost sleep and enjoys all things related to art.
Joel Ruch

Joel is most captivated by Jessica, their two daughters and son, the great outdoors, and the equal participation of women and non-Western Jesus-followers in local efforts to live together in Jesus’ Kingdom.
Joel and Jessica were 14 years into a lifelong, culturally immersive Kingdom effort when they were unexpectedly shut out of their large East Asian host country. After spending two years trying to get back in, they let go of that dream and returned to North America in 2022.
Joel grew up in Vancouver, Canada. He and Jessica each have a B.A. and M.A. from ACU and an M.A. from HIU in California. They both speak Mandarin and love trying to experience life together in Jesus’ Kingdom with others.
Jonathan Stein

Jonathan, his wife Dr. Brit’ny Stein (ACU Psychology), and their two daughters came to ACU after serving at the Contact Mission Church of Christ in Tulsa, OK, a domestic mission point for community and neighborhood ministry. Jonathan graduated from the MDiv program at ACU in 2012, and spent time working in social services in Stillwater, OK and Philadelphia, PA while Brit’ny completed her doctorate at Oklahoma State.
Once the pair landed in Tulsa, Jonathan joined the team at Contact and served as the Associate Minister until they returned to Abilene in 2024. During his time at Contact, Jonathan wore a wide variety of hats, furthering his passions for adult Biblical education and administration. He looks forward to using those skills to enrich the student experience at ACU.
In his free time, Jonathan enjoys building LEGO and playing on the Nintendo Switch with his wonderful daughters, spending time with his beautiful wife, and finding opportunities to serve the church.
Amy Rieder

Amy (Wright) Rieder graduated from ACU in 1997 with a degree in management and a certification in secondary education. Before joining the Halbert Center in August 2024, she worked in education as a teacher, most recently at Abilene Christian School. Amy is grateful to be part of a team that engages students in experiences that connect them to God’s mission.
Amy is married to Lance Rieder (’98), and they have two children. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, having coffee and prayer with friends, spending time outdoors and playing games.
Laura Callarman
Community Engagement Coordinator
Laura grew up in the Ozark Hills of Arkansas. After earning degrees in history and European studies at the University of Arkansas, she followed her heart to ACU, where she completed an MDiv Missions degree, met her husband, Rosten, and earned a DMin.
Laura and Rosten have engaged deeply in Christian community and Abilene’s nonprofit sector, consistently investing in the flourishing of this place and its people. This reflects Laura’s ultimate passion: forming followers of Jesus who will live and learn on mission with God and one another, embodying God’s redemptive good news through creative, transformative engagement with the world around them.
Laura teaches occasionally as adjunct faculty in the DBMM. She and Rosten also have three amazing, spirited neurodivergent children who constantly keep them on their toes. In her free time, Laura enjoys reading science fiction, playing board games with friends, and attempting to keep a garden alive in the West Texas heat.
