Mission
The mission of the Black Students Association is to foster the success and development of the African American student body by creating a community that develops cultural identity and encourages inclusion while upholding Christian morals and policies of Abilene Christian University.
History
In 1996 Essence of Ebony was founded by a group of concerned students who felt ACU needed a broader spectrum of cultural organizations represented on campus. These students wanted to celebrate the African American culture through a black history program.
The organization evolved into something bigger than a program. Essence of Ebony became the Black Students Association (BSU) and today is now known as the Black Students Union (BSU). The BSU is an official Abilene Christian University student organization under the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA).
Who We Are/What We Do
BSU was originally an initiative designed to provide a sense of community amongst the black students on campus. Continually evolving, BSU is now comprised of a very diverse population. Through our engaging events and activities, we seek to strengthen our own community, while engrafting others into it. BSU discourages exclusion as we invite all to worship, fellowship, and to learn and grow with us as an ACU family.
