ACU announces the creation of a new, online graduate program within the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition: a Master of Science in Community Nutrition, with courses beginning in May 2017.
This program is one of very few nutrition master’s programs that is community focused, designed to prepare students to utilize nutrition-related knowledge and skills to improve the quality of health and well-being among individuals with limited resources. It will prepare graduates for successful careers such as registered dietitians/nutritionists who are committed to servant leadership while modeling Christian values.
All coursework, except the Dietetic Internship course, will be completed online using the Canvas learning management system. If a student is currently enrolled in a dietetic internship at an institution other than ACU or has previously completed a dietetic internship, six hours of credit will be awarded. Online courses are offered in seven-week semesters, and students will complete one to two courses per semester.
Completion of a dietetic internship and the Master of Science in Community Nutrition will allow graduates to sit for the Registration Examination for Dietitians. Once the exam is passed, registered dietitians/nutritionists are able to work in places such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, community and public health agencies, corporate wellness facilities, schools, colleges and universities, foodservice facilities, among many others.
