Abilene Christian University has added two new members to its Board of Trustees: Cecil Eager of New Braunfels and Guy “Mojo” Lewis, D.D.S., of Houston.
Board chair Dr. Barry Packer said the new members will officially start their term of service in May.
Eager is owner of the historic Gruene Mansion Inn and Gruene Cottages in New Braunfels. A native of Callahan County, he earned his bachelor’s degree from ACU in 1971 and his M.Ed. from Baylor University in 1972. He was ACU’s head tennis coach from 1977-83 and 1986-90, and served as director of athletics from 1990-95.
Eager serves as chair of the Board of Directors for the Comal County Water Recreation District No. 1; was founding chair of the New Braunfels Area Community Foundation board; and has served on the boards of New Braunfels Young Life and Chamber of Commerce. His company was named the city’s Small Business of the Year in 2009.
Eager’s wife, Judith, earned her M.M.F.T. from ACU in 1987 and has previously served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy. They have three children: Shane Bowen, Ashley Murphy and Chelsea Eager. They are members of Oak Hills Church.
Lewis is president and CEO of the Texas Center for Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry and an innovator in developing porcelain veneers. He is a founding and accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from ACU in 1980 and his D.D.S. from Baylor College of Dentistry. He previously served as a university trustee from 1995-2010. He also has served on the University Council and Alumni Advisory Board, and on the board of Northland Christian School.
He and his wife, Holly, a 1980 ACU graduate, have five children: Lauryn Hines, and Tyler, Travis, Leslie and Teddy Lewis. They are members of Bammel Road Church of Christ.
ACU’s Board of Trustees is the governing body for the university, and trustees are elected at the board’s February meeting each year. They are eligible to serve up to five three-year terms. Trustees set policy, guide the institution’s long-term direction and ensure it fulfills its mission to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world.
