Affordable Care Act webinar to help ministers

The Siburt Institute for Church Ministry at Abilene Christian University has every minister’s best interests at heart.
That’s why its teaming with Christian Leaders Benefits Alliance (CLBA) to present a live webinar on healthcare to give ministers insights into the government’s new Affordable Care Act.

BSB 1The webinar will take place Monday, Aug. 19, from 7-8:30 p.m. CDT. ACU chancellor Dr. Royce Money (’64) – who also is executive director of the Siburt Institute – will be joined by panelists James Wright (’03), area vice president of Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc.; Jim Orr (’86), attorney and partner at Francis, Orr, & Totusek, LLP; and Jon Mullican, president of CLBA and executive minister of Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas.Money says that ministers, particularly those in small and medium-sized churches, are relatively unaware of the consequences of their healthcare options as this new law fully takes effect in January.
“Providing expertise in the rather technical arena of health insurance provides congregational leaders with information they otherwise might not have, and we certainly want families in full-time ministry to have the best possible healthcare coverage,” says Money. “We believe the information we’ll share will help them make more informed choices.”
The Siburt Institute’s goal is to assist congregations that are independent or have no denominational headquarters. It offers a variety of resources for church leaders on its website. Plans also are being made for intensive one-day workshops on topics of practical interest to church leaders. Some sessions will be conducted in Abilene, while others will take place at ACU’s learning center at CitySquare headquarters at 511 N. Ackard St. in downtown Dallas. To participate in the webinar, visit this Web page on Aug. 19 as early as 6:30 p.m. CDT.
