Gates wows NFL scouts on ACU's Pro Day

Edmond Gates, Abilene Christian University’s all-America wide receiver, continues to impress potential employers from the National Football League.
Scouts from 17 NFL teams were on hand at Wally Bullington Practice Field this morning for ACU’s Pro Day, which drew other prospective pro players from the Wildcats as well as Texas Tech, Angelo State, Hardin-Simmons and McMurry universities.
The workout bettered Gates’ standing broad jump mark (now just 1″ behind the University of Alabama’s Julio Jones, the NFL Scouting Combine leader in that event) and reportedly solidified impressions of the ACU speedster via other drills.
Gil Brandt, NFL.com writer and former Dallas Cowboys’ vice president of player personnel, posted a rosy review of Gates’ Pro Day performance here.
Cincinnati Bengals running back and former ACU star Bernard Scott was on hand to watch Gates, who is his cousin. The Pittsburgh Steelers were represented by their area scout and former star of the Super Bowl-winning “Steel Curtain” era, “Mean” Joe Greene.
