ACU remembers: Waunette Shaver

Waunette (Fitzgerald ’60) Shaver, 80, died Jan. 3 after a lengthy illness.
She married Dr. Tommy Shaver in 1949 and they were married 56 years prior to his death in 2005. Waunette earned a master’s degree in education in 1969 and taught school in the Abilene Independent School District before joining the faculty at ACU. She retired in 1992 as associate professor emerita of education after 22 years of service, and finished much of her work toward a doctorate at the University of North Texas. Tommy was a professor of Bible at ACU for 40 years (1955-95), and a pulpit minister in Abilene, Richardson, Burleson and Garland. The Shavers served many summers as volunteer missionaries in Vienna, Austria.
A service remembering her life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at The Hills Church of Christ (formerly Richland Hills) in Fort Worth. The family requests memorials be made to Abilene Christian University.
