Coates donates rare Ethiopian books to library

The latest volumes donated to the Callie Faye Milliken Special Collections at Abilene Christian University’s Brown Library are well-traveled historical ones from Ethiopia, via Emmy-nominated Hollywood production designer Nelson Coates (’84).
Coates acquired a pair of 300- to 400-year-old prayer books from an auction in Savannah, Ga., and presented them Jan. 10 to ACU officials. They are written in Ge’ez, an ancient priestly language.
Images of the rare religious materials can be viewed here.
The Milliken Special Collections are located on the main floor of the Brown Library, and directed by Dr. Carisse Berryhill.
