The sleep-deprived Abilene Christian University Wildcats beat No. 1 seed Central Missouri, 11-5, this afternoon in the semifinal of the 2010 NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament, advancing to the final against those same Mules in a game that began at 5:15 p.m. CST.
ACU had a short night after beating University of the Incarnate Word, 9-4, in a game that started after midnight and ended at 3:20 a.m. today. The red-eye game was necessary because of lengthy rain delays preceding a previous game Monday that took 13 innings before the Wildcats knocked off St. Mary’s, 9-8.
One more win sends head coach Britt Bonneau’s baseball team to its first national championship tournament since 2003. You can follow the regional final game, which ACU leads, 3-0 after one inning, here.
