Construction on the new Student Recreation and Wellness Center at Abilene Christian University is already giving hints of the change the 113,000-square-foot facility will make on campus.
You can follow the progress of the project, which will be named in honor of ACU president Dr. Royce Money (’64) and his wife, Pam (Handy ’65), here, see floor plans and architect’s drawings here, and get a birds-eye view of the construction site via this Web cam image.
In the photographs here, you can see that parts of the current Gibson Health and P.E. Center will be retained (and renovated), yet encompassed by the much larger overall building, which includes two pools, an additional multi-purpose gymnasium, eighth-mile elevated indoor running track, and other venues for student activity, learning, exercise, athletics competition, and spiritual, physical, and intellectual growth. It will be home of the Department of Exercise Science and Health, the ACU Medical Clinic, Counseling Center, and Intramural Sports Office.
See this page for information about gift opportunities to honor the Moneys with a gift to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, and this page for tickets to An Evening With Royce and Pam, a May 20 event in Abilene to help celebrate the couple’s 19 years of service to ACU.
