Art and technology combine as ideas are turned into designs for print or the web. Visuals are a large component of effective communication; text and graphics work together in branding or messaging.

Housed in the Art and Design Department and in collaboration with Journalism and Mass Communication the Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design/advertising blends art and design training with preparation in advertising and mass communication principles.

Leave armed with knowledge, skills and a professional portfolio that will help you find a career as a designer in a variety of industries, including advertising, publishing, media and eCommerce.

Our versatile faculty in the Department of Art and Design is made up of award-winning artists; we are leaders in our various disciplines and media, artists that actively produce and exhibit our creative work. As artists and educators, we believe that art has a unique power to change our world, to make it a more beautiful, generous, rich, and open place.

Alice Pratt Brown Art Hall is home to spacious studios, computer labs, specialized classrooms and a woodshop. Advanced students have competitive access to private and shared studio space. The Hall is also home to the Clover Virginia Shore Art Gallery and a sculpture courtyard
