Big Country Veterans Day Tribute at ACU to honor area veterans and families

Veteran's DayAbilene Christian University will join others in Abilene and the Big Country area to honor veterans and their families at a Veterans Day tribute. All are invited to the event at 11 a.m., Nov. 11 in Moody Coliseum.

Because Memorial Day is outside of the university's traditional semester calendar, the Veterans Day program will honor both living veterans and those who have died in service. The event will include a tribute to those from Abilene and surrounding areas who died in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as ACU alumni who died in service.

ACU's Big Purple Band will perform patriotic music honoring veterans, including "Armed Forces Medley" and "Duty, Honor, Country," which features narrated excerpts from Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s 1962 speech by the same name. Other program elements include a Ceremony of Allegiance, which includes a reading of the preamble of the Constitution, recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and the national anthem.
