ACU football season-opener to be nationally televised

Next Thursday, the Abilene Christian University Wildcats will face off against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in a nationally televised season-opening battle between top-five ranked teams. The game will air nationally on CBS College Sports. This will mark the first time a game has been nationally televised from Shotwell Stadium.

In addition to exciting football, there will be food, music and fun activities for children that are open to the public before the game beginning at 5:30 p.m. ACU will honor the men and women who serve in the military and their families by inviting them to eat free at the tailgate party and encouraging them to come onto the field for the Color Guard presentation and the National Anthem. There will be a C-130 flyover before kickoff.

The American Football Coaches' Association pre-season poll placed the Bearcats at No. 2 in the nation and the ACU Wildcats at No. 5. Last season, the Wildcats and Bearcats met twice with both teams ranked in the top 10 at the time of each game. ACU rallied to beat the Bearcats on their own turf earlier in the season, but the Bearcats later knocked the then-No. 2 ACU out of the NCAA Division II playoffs.

The Wildcats and Bearcats will start the season off at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 27 at Shotwell Stadium.
