ACU alumna's documentary broadcasts nationally on PBS

MosqueAbilene Christian University alumna Brittany Huckabee has directed, produced and edited the documentary, "The Mosque in Morgantown," that will be broadcast on national PBS stations over the next two weeks. The film will air on Dallas's PBS station KERA Channel 13, June 16 at 8 p.m.

"The Mosque in Morgantown" demonstrates the split between progressive and traditionalist Muslims in a mosque in a small town. Through interviews and footage from inside the mosque, it documents the story of modernity versus tradition.

"The story in Morgantown stands as a powerful illustration of the predicament of many religious communities today," said Huckabee in her director's statement about the film.

Huckabee is a 1999 graduate of ACU's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. She is the founder and principal of Version One Productions, Inc., and served as a 2006-07 Filmmaker-in-Residence at WGBH, Boston's award-winning PBS station. She has directed four documentaries and two weekly series, broadcast nationally on PBS. "The Mosque in Morgantown" is her first independent film project.

ACU will honor Huckabee in October with a Gutenberg Award, an award that recognizes distinguished professional achievements of Journalism and Mass Communication Department alumni. Recipients of Gutenbergs must have been alumni for at least 10 years to be considered for the award.
