Abilene Christian University Board of Trustees member Deon Fair was appointed chairman of The Christian Chronicle board recently at its spring meeting.
"I was a casual reader of the Chronicle and respected its positive reporting of news," Fair said in a recent article from The Christian Chronicle. "I was aware of the paper's history and felt I wanted to be a part of making it even more useful as a positive advocate for the exciting work of God within Churches of Christ."
Fair, a Christian Chronicle board member since 2003, is a native of South Africa. Fair's father, Ian, moved his family to Abilene in 1965 to earn a degree from ACU. In 1968, the Fairs joined several families in their evangelical work among the Zulu people of South Africa. The team helped found a preacher-training school and eventually turned the work over to Zulu church leaders. The Fairs moved back to Texas in 1974.
A retired partner of Accenture, a consulting, technology services and outsourcing firm, Fair serves on the boards of ACU, Missions Resource Network, Genesis Networks Solutions and the Heritage Christian College Foundation.
Fair replaces Dale Brown, who has served on the board since 1983 and as its chairman since 2002. Brown will continue to serve on the board, which provides policy governance for the publication.
