ACU partners with AISD to encourage young artists

AISD art contestThe Department of Teacher Education at Abilene Christian University recently partnered with Abilene Independent School District (AISD) to fill the halls of the ACU Education Building with art from budding artists in the Abilene community.

After calling for art from AISD students, several works were selected to hang, rewarding winners with prizes and giveaways, including a scholarship for one 3-hour course at ACU.

"We want the teachers that we train to see these students’ artwork and be inspired at how powerful it is, and to remember the importance of creativity in their own future students," said Dr. Dana Hood, chair of the Department of Teacher Education at ACU. "We are so proud to display the art of such talented students from AISD."

ACU art professors, Mike Wiggins, Kenny Jones and Brandon Young judged the high school portion of the contest. The grand prize for one 3-hour course at ACU was awarded to Jerrica Davila, from Woodson Center for Excellence. Davila’s painting included the poetry from Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant.
