ACU appoints two new members to Board of Trustees

Two new members were recently appointed to the Abilene Christian University Board of Trustees. Dr. Colleen Durrington and Charles Onstead will begin their terms this month.

"We are very pleased that Colleen and Charles have agreed to join the ACU board," said Dr. Royce Money, president of ACU. "The experience they bring to the table will be a tremendous asset."

Durrington recently retired after 22 years of service to ACU. She arrived on campus in 1985 as an associate professor of education and the director of the Reading Clinic. Durrington also served as a professor of education and the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

"Dr. Durrington is certainly esteemed by the ACU board and administration for her capable administrative work as the former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences," said Money."She will bring her strength and experience to the Academic Affairs Committee of the board."

Charles Onstead is the managing partner of Onstead Polvado Capital Investments, L.P. (OPCI), a private equity investments company. Prior to his current position, Onstead worked with Randalls Food Markets Inc. in the Dallas\Fort Worth, Austin and Houston offices. He served as director of merchandising until the sale of Randalls to Safeway Inc. in 1999.

Onstead attended Abilene Christian University, and continues to work closely with the ACU Alumni Association.

"Charles Onstead brings to the board energy and enthusiasm for ACU, as well as a rich heritage," said Money. "His father, Bob, served for several years on the ACU board."

The ACU Board of Trustees sets broad policies and monitors the work of the administration in its day-to-day decision-making responsibilities. The president and his staff are empowered to operate the university within the parameters set by these policies.
