Abilene Christian University officially dedicates the newly renovated "World Famous Bean" in a celebration on Monday, Sept. 8. ACU students, faculty and staff are invited to the Grand Opening Celebration in the McGlothlin Campus Center.
"The Grand Opening of the new World Famous Bean is a 'Texas-Size Celebration of Food,'" said Anthony Williams, director of retail and campus stores manager. "With this event we plan to celebrate our new Bean and bring awareness to those on campus who may not have had the opportunity to experience the new Bean."
The Bean, which has been under construction since the end of last spring, now features a Mongolian grill, exhibition cooking, brick oven pizza, a bakery and many more dining locations with fresh cuisine.
"The purpose for building a new World Famous Bean was to create an authentic and exceptional dining experience on our campus for our students," said Williams. "After several thousand surveys, many focus groups and other input from our students, it was clear a change needed to be made. Things will continue to change, to improve and to provide more places where students can gather together as a community and grow together both in their collegiate and spiritual lives."
As part of the celebration, there will be a ribbon cutting inside The Bean at 12 p.m., free giveaways of t-shirts, food and prizes from 1-5 p.m. and a chef showdown, Wii bowling tournament and talent showcase from 5-7 p.m.
Sign up to participate in the chef showdown, Wii bowling tournament or talent showcase at the cashier stand at the entrance of The Bean.
