Abilene Christian University will dedicate the newly completed Diane and John Duncum Center for Conflict Resolution, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
The ACU and Abilene communities are invited to a brief ceremony that will be followed by an Open House until 4 p.m. The 7,000-square-foot Center is located at 1541 N. Judge Ely Boulevard, on the southeast corner of North Judge Ely Boulevard and East North 16th Street.
"At a time when ACU is continuing its outreach to the local community, the nation and to the world, this new facility makes an important statement," said Dr. Joe Cope, executive director of the Center for Conflict Resolution. "It says that we recognize our responsibility as God's children to be peacemakers. And, it signals our dedication to making resources available to those around us."
The Center will house offices for staff and faculty of the Department of Conflict Resolution, and includes four mediation rooms, as well as classroom and meeting spaces. Cope said the location of the center is a welcoming, yet professional, venue that will encourage people to "come to the table."
"In the language of conflict resolution, we place great importance on the location where peacemaking and reconciliation occur." Said Cope. "No words can adequately express the importance of our relationship with Diane and John Duncum. Their encouragement of our ministry began long before we ever dreamed of a structure like this. And their vision and enthusiasm for the Duncum Center has unlocked new dreams and excitement we couldn't foretell."
