Each year, Abilene Christian University recognizes distinguished alumni in the field of journalism and mass communication. This year's Gutenberg Dinner will honor Pamela Hamm ('85), Greg Staley ('92) and Steve Wen Ho Lin ('86) for their outstanding accomplishments in their respective fields.
"The Gutenberg Dinner has become the premier event for the JMC Department each year, and a highlight of ACU's Homecoming," said Dr. Cheryl Bacon, chair of the journalism and mass communication department. "We believe this year's honorees represent the wide sphere of influence in markets of all size -- around the world and close to home -- where our alumni are working and reflecting the excellent preparation they received here."
After spending most of her childhood in New Mexico, Pamela Hamm's family moved to Midland when she was a junior in high school. After earning a bachelor's degree in mass communication from ACU, Hamm interned with the U.S, Coast Guard in New York City, where she wrote articles for the Governor's Island Gazette.
In 1990, Hamm moved back to Midland and began her career as an anchor and reporter for the local ABC affiliate. Four years later, she moved to Austin to anchor and report for the NBC affiliate. In 1999, Pam returned to Midland where she has continued her career in local news with KWES.
Since graduating from ACU with a degree in mass communication, Greg Staley has created an extensive resume in public relations and advertising. Staley worked for many years with Team & Associates in Abilene, Zachary Associates in Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Zoological Association, before becoming the Vice President of Marketing Communications for the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau in 1993.
While with the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Staley was involved in economic development, cultural and heritage projects that paralleled Fort Worth's growth into the 19th largest city in the United States. In 2006, Staley became the Manager of Communications for the Travel Industry Association, a nonprofit trade association representing the U.S. travel industry.
Steve Wen-Ho Lin was raised in Taiwan, and began his advertising career after graduating from Abilene Christian University in 1986 with a master's in mass communication.
After working as an account director with both BBDO and McCann Erickson in Taipei, Lin joined J. Walter Thompson Taipei in 1992 as Director-in-Charge of Ford. In 1995, Lin relocated to Detroit to serve Ford for one year before moving back to Taipei.
In 1997, Lin was appointed managing director of JWT Taipei. During his time at the helm of JWT operations, the agency was named "JWT Asia Pacific Office of the Year" in 1998 and 2003, "Agency of the Year" 1998 and 2003 and "Taiwan’s Most Admired Agency" in 2002, 2003 and 2005. In 2006, Lin became the President and CEO of Grey Global Group Greater China. Grey Global is one of the largest communications groups in the world.
