Abilene Christian University's Counseling Center, in conjunction with other campus departments and organizations, will sponsor the 11th annual Wellness Week, Oct. 1-5, with the theme, "Starting the Journey."Wellness Week centers on bolstering students' emotional, physical and spiritual health through activities such as the annual Fitness Walk, open forums and various informational sessions in and around ACU's Campus Center.
"Wellness is a journey," said Steve Rowlands, director of ACU's Counseling Center. "During this journey, we pick up companions that improve the journey. However, other times we pick up companions such as stress, anxiety and relational issues that lead to unhealthy living. Wellness Week is a time to evaluate the journey and form new routines for a better life."
Beginning Monday, each day of the week will focus on different areas of personal wellness.
On Tuesday, informational booths covering topics such as depression, anxiety, stress, campus safety, nutrition and exercise will be set up in the Campus Center. An evening devotional is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, free popcorn will be served in the Campus Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A Chapel forum entitled "Living a Healthy and Godly Life," is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. in Cullen Auditorium. Panelists will answer candid questions about how God and wellness impact lives.
Friday will be the Annual Fitness Walk beginning at 11:45 a.m. at Jacob's Dream. Everyone participating in the walk will receive a gift certificate for a free smoothie from Energy Zone. Wellness Week wrap up later that evening with a free movie in Cullen Auditorium. All students with an ACU ID card will able to attend, free of charge.
