ACU alumnus G. Randy Nicholson (’59), president and CEO of AutoGas Systems Inc., has landed a spot on USA Today’s list of the top 25 inventions in 25 years. In 1987, Nicholson launched a card based "pay-at-the-pump" service at two gas stations. Now more than 20 years later, AutoGas provides software and technical services to 1,911 convenience stores across the country.
After growing up at Boles Children's Home in Quinlan, Texas, Nicholson graduated from high school and worked at a Safeway supermarket in Dallas. A short time later, he requested a work transfer to Abilene so that he could attend ACU and study accounting. Nicholson worked and attended school full time, and was still able to graduate in four years.
"Randy Nicholson is a man of integrity, innovation and passion for business and entrepreneurship," said Dr. Rick Lytle, dean of the College of Business Administration at ACU. "His philanthropic heart makes him a tremendous role model for all constituents of our College of Business Administration."
Before forming AutoGas Systems, Inc. Nicholson worked as a CPA, and as the president of E-Z Serve Inc. and AFCO.
