Dr. Callie Faye Milliken, who directed the planning and building of Abilene Christian University's Brown Library, died Saturday at a Longview nursing home.  She had recently suffered a stroke, said longtime friend Maurita Dietz.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rader Funeral Home on Judson Street in Longview.  The funeral is planned for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Milliken graduated from ACU in 1938.  She joined the ACU staff in 1953 as an assistant professor and director of the library.  She was promoted to associate professor in 1956 and received full professorship in 1977.

Milliken established the Friends of the ACU Library organization and received the first "Friend for a Day" award, which was presented annually during ACU's homecoming for many years.  She retired in 1986 after 33 years with the ACU library.  She moved to Longview in 1997 to be near her sister, Nelda Jean Stewart.
