The mission of the Office of General Counsel is to serve the university by advising about compliance with applicable laws and policies, minimizing legal risks and costs, facilitating transactions, and providing legal advocacy on behalf of the university.

Slade provides legal counsel to the President, the Board of Trustees and ACU's senior academic and administrative officers. He also serves as secretary of the university and provides governance and administrative support to the Board of Trustees. He received his B.S. and M.A. in Human Communication from Abilene Christian University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
